Sounds like you need some homework help. : }
The true nature of your answer would have to be either based in reality or an ideal.
If the answer to your question is based in reality, then the answer is that apperances do matter, because society's structure is built on apperances, not only in clothing, but body type, demeanor, and as of recent, income level.
If the answer to your question is based in an ideal, then the answer to your question is that apperances don't matter. We "shouldn't" judge, or make conclusions about people based on their apperance.
As infants, young children, and young adults, we are told that our appearance doesn't matter, and that we shouldn't judge people based on this, but when we grow up, and we get out in the real world, we see this is a lie.
A college graduate wouldn't show up for a job interview in a T-shirt and jeans. He knows he won't get the job BASED ON HIS APPEARANCE.
A single person knows they can't go out on the weekend unless they have the right clothes, the right shoes, and the right cell phone. If they don't have all these things, they know they won't get a date, BASED ON THEIR APPERANCE.
A musician goes to an audition, and they have to put on the right clothes, and have the right attitude, and if they don't, they won't get the gig, BASED ON THEIR APPERANCE.
Should I go on.... ?

What matters is a matter of individual discernment. No matter how you spin this you are still having to go outside logic and yourself. So you lose control of this as an argument. You need to ask, "Does it matter to whom?" The answer lies with other people.
Extend this to society, if it matters to the many than it will have its effect. I think situations where it matters most are generally less important with the exception of choosing a mate. I am older and wiser so today I would chose happiness.

In some situations appearance is an important matter,but in other hand appearance has least.But more than this our character,personality ,these are important factors."All that glitters is not gold".Some times one may not look good in their appearance,but his character or knowledge in any subject might be attracted by people.In such situations appearance has least important.

apperances do matter. becasue you have to be attracted to someone to have a relationship with them. if i'm not feeling your looks it won't work out becasue i know i can find someone who looks better.
