Yes, it's practised. I think its power is in the pre-planted suggestions that it creates becoming self-fulfilling prophecies. Suffused with the fear that it creates, very powerful.

I believe the power of the mind is greater than we know. Voodoo may work by tapping into people's fears and their own mind will cause the "power " to appear to work. This is a hypnotic effect.

I believe in the religion and I also practice it. It is a beautiful religion that has gotten a bad rep from Hollywood and the media.
It is a monotheistic religion. We believe in one God called Bondye or Good God. We honor our ancestors because without them we would not be here. And we serve the lwa (spirits), they are similar to saints or angels. They intercede for us because Bondye is distant from us. We believe in family, community, and helping those that need it.

Yeah...sometimes I find myself twitching and getting sharp random pains. I also believe in paranoia though.
By the way, if you shaved off your whiskers and got a mullet you'd look a lot like us. Mullets are hot - get one! =)
