No one ever found out who Jack the Ripper really was. There's a lot of speculation, but it's one mystery that will never truly be solved.
Van Helsing wasn't a real person, by the way. He was a character in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula and never had anything to do with Jack the Ripper, who was a real person.

His/her identity was never found. The Met.and City police screwed up the investigation big time. There are many conspiracies and many solutions on offer. Every decade a new expert comes along and points the finger at someone new. Donald Rumbelow did it a few years ago. Patricia Conwell was the most recent I believe.
In all honesty, no one ever will know.
However, he/she does make for some very interesting films and literature. Have you ever seen From Hell? Or that Star Trek episode where it turns out Jack the Ripper was some evil alien spirit and he takes over Spock's body?

The identity of Jack the Ripper is still, a mystery. Although the suspect I would go with is a Polish immigrant who was moved to a mental hospital in Bournemouth, or Eastbourne at the same time as the murders stopped.
