and we have to take care of everybody, what other country would you rather have be the number one superpower? Russia? Iran? North Korea? Germany? or possibly some other lovely country?

iltmamac, A country is not free- CUBA if they kill their people for wanting to leave the country. If I want to leave the USA, our country would just say bye bye. Chavez is a dictator for life as he has declared himself.

I have been to China a few times and they seem to be progressing nicely. I feel much more comfortable in China than I do in Mexico- which I have been to about 20 times.

mona-delosangeles, I am assuming you live in LA but who knows. In America we have states with governors and mayors who run day to day operations. The mayor of New Orleans did nothing to evacuate his city and the governor did even less. Thousands of school buses were left in parking lots while the mayor hid in a hotel and cowered. They had plenty of warning to evacuate but the mayor froze like a little deer. So what do the misinformed do, blame Bush. Easy way out. It is undisputed that we are the only superpower on earth. Europe can do nothing to counter even a stupid country like Iran. Every country in the Americas depends on the USA especially Mexico which is a terrible country with the most corruption on the face of the earth.

That is a good question and while I am not from Europe I can say that as an American I am weary of having to take on these issues. Why cannot Europe deal with Iran even if militarily? Iran threatens Europe more than they do us. They can saber rattle all they want but Iran is not going to purge themselves by engaging in war with a country that actually can fight back. They are looking for someone to bully and after their Middle Eastern neighbors they would like bully and extort from Europe. So wh doesn't France and Germany do something about it? While it is chic for Europeans to criticize America for acting, they would be even more critical if we did not act and its so much easier to have someone else pay for the dinner while you complain about the food. It would not be so bad if we had to act in a role of backing up a European country who was making a stand but we have fallen into a love/hate relationship where everyone loves for us to stand up but then they want to say they hate us as well. I think we would be very happy if other countries would risk their troops on their own behalf.

Funny question>>>>>You say.....
1/"Since the USA is the only superpower in the world"......Who said that ?
2/"we have to take care of everybody".......Who asked for that?
How about a super power that would mind their own business and not interfere in others internal politics ?
How about a super power that would not try to impose their vision of democracy to the rest of the world ?
How about a super power that would be the symbol of security and not aggression ?
I only see one country like that......Switzerland !!! And i'm not from there.
Strange how the Americans as well as the Europeans and also the Asians or the Africans know their way to Switzerland.....Could it be for the only power that rules the world>>>>>MONEY ????
OK and now some will have a go at me !!LOL

The ideal world would be to have at least 2 or three superpowers. That way, one would not have a monopoly over the world like today. Things would even out between those.
Ruling the world is a business ladies and gentleman. Remember that.

No doubt that EU has a substantial amount of population, economic and military strength, I think they lack unity among themselves. USA has demonstrated over the 2 world wars that it has what it takes to bail Europe out and the world does need USA. I can't imagine if USA fall back to the isolationist policy.
But it will be great if Bush can be transparent in his dealing esp. in Iraq and convince the americans and the world what he did is right. I cannot imagine Russia be the superpower.

The answer is , There should be no super power. Every country should mind their own business. but big US business will not allow it.
Look at Chavez in Venezuela. he wants to nationalize the oil in his country so that the money stays in Venezuela and goes to the education, health for the poor people of Venezuela and not to the profits of Exxon.
Look at NAFTA. you talk about free trade. free trade for who. the poor people of Mexico, Venezuela,Bolivia etc or the profits for big business.
Look at Cuba. Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the US. Everyone has free health care and education. The US Say's the people of Cuba are repressed. Are they really? I think the people in the US are repressed. I cannot afford health care and I cannot afford to send my kids to school . I am a proud American and I love my country the USA, but our social system has to change for the good of the people not for the profits of big business.
talkinfo below has the right idea.

Super power?
You have the biggest debt in the world, you just have to see how your government reacted at Katrina as to see what you really have as a country.
If you want to believe the lies of your government, then you are just fool, as everybody knows, your government is just pushing the world to end with its greedy endless wars and no respect for anything,, this is power? this is a dying monster of destruction and this is very dangerous for the world, just wake up. In your name.

Hate to break it to you, pal, but Bush isn't exactly great in taking "care of everybody." If your country leaves other countries alone by NOT sticking your noses in everybody's businesses, maybe the world wouldn't hate your government so much. I mean, hey, would you like it if I came over to your house and started telling you what to do?

The bottom line is this, Europe is afraid to fight for anything because of the two big wars fought on her soil. They are afraid to see blood shed. China is basically evil, and makes no effort to show otherwise. They kill their own people with tanks for having peaceful demonstrations. Russia is a lot like China, except that they actually elected their current dictator (aside from the fact that they sell nuclear materials to people who want to bomb innocents.) African and most middle eastern countries are either too busy killing each other or starving to death. Mexico can't even convince her own people to love their land enough to stay there and try to solve their own problems. Canada has no covictions about anything but caring for their own. Iran wants to establish their laws over the entire world and have a global Islamic state. No South or Central American country has any power to get anything done outside of their borders, not to mention the fact that their people really don't care enough to even try. The USA is the only country with the power and the will to make any positive changes for other nations. Personally, I think that we should leave other countries alone. The small-minded people in their governments don't want our help, so why the hell should we give them any. BUT, any nation whose leaders shout "death to America" or whose people celebrate in the streets when we are attacked should be attacked by the US. And I say this not out of hate, but of belief in the inalienable right of a nation to defend itself from those who would destroy it.
Let me address the individuals who speak ill of the USA though. It's just like any weak person who likes to insult the strongest person in their social group when they are not around. You talk all that crap, because it makes your weak friends respect you more. You should have some pride in yourself, don't let those who are ruled by jealousy and hate rule your mind. Think about who stood up for you when Hitler threatened your freedom. Think about who stood up to the Soviets when they wanted to take your lands. Think about who stands up to Iran when they want to take your ability to choose your God or lack thereof. I wish the best for you all, especially those of you who hate me for loving freedom. Hope you find your way. Try not to murder anyone because they don't agree with ya, ok?

I think that there will be no country that could replace the US. I think that the whole EU could make a chance (combine forces), but I think that the EU won't be as great (I must say) as the US is.
