I have unchecked the "read only" boxes, but they recheck themselves. So I cannot write directly to my CD-RW's.

are you trying to copy a file, folder and are these files rights protected? You should be more specific because it could be your burning device is just a Reader and not a writer.. I wouldnt know from reading your description but i have ran into various problems like what you talking about so its a broad category.

They show read only because that's what they are. To put data onto them it has to go through a burn program that does indexing etc.necessary to keep track of the data locations etc.
To write directly, get a flash drive or a floppy drive.

Sounds like some deafult options are kicking in.
These need to be reset.
Also, are you using Nero ? Roxio?
The correct drivers need to be installed. That goes a Long way.
Also, check device manager to see if there are any errors for your device, if there are , then the reinstall of the device drivers will be a good start

i do not bear in mind you pointing out who's going to play the jug & spoons? like the juice harp, the spoons have continually been kept away from through the musical market! If anybody needs me I’ll be in my trailer eliminating the brown M&M’s from my sweet bowl.
