Personally,I'm waiting to see how much bulls**t is in the card he gives me-how much he loves me,and how much I matter-yadda yadda yadda-so I can say to him 'Do you really mean all this?' and when he says yes,I'll ask him to then explain why he insists on going on singles sites and giving his number to other women.
By the way,I have got him a a Valentine's gift and card. And when I tell him I love him-I mean it.

I was wondering the same thing when i was in High school I had a girlfriend break up with me on Valentines day. Actually I had two girlfriends break up with me on Valentines day when I was in high school but one relationship only lasted a week the other was a month. Maybe they like someone else and would rather spend valentines day with the other person.

Causemost days couples just get on with it plodding along, then valentines day come and it underlines that you don't really want to be lovey dovey with that person anymore so its like a catalyst.
I'm all in favour of a Its great to be single day, where all single friends can send a card to congratulate each other and go out and have wild parties with no-one to answer to or have a grump at you cos you snogged 10 different people and came home on the milk-float!
Saying that, I have a very gorgeous bf but remember being single!! I could send cards to all my single friends tho.

Valentine's Day has become very overwrought, and people raise their expectations unrealistically. The day is freighted with so much now: if I don't get diamonds, he doesn't love me. If I don't get flowers, whatever, the relationship is no good. More people break up on V-Day than any other day of the year. Why? I'm not sure there is a simple answer, but I would speculate that the people who do this are very self-involved and immature, that they are looking for a perfection that does not exist and that they will never find.

Because it's cheaper than having to buy a gift? And probably also it's because there's a bit of a build up to Valentine's day to do something special or prove that the guy / girl loves their partner and that's when they realise that they actually don't and it all goes to s**t!
Personally I hate valentines too!

What makes valentines day any different from any other day. If you truly love your partner why don't you show them that you love them all year round.
On the other hand they could be afraid the relationship is coming to a serious point and which point they need to flee. Or they are cheepskates who really can't afford a gift or anything.
Ladies please don't say your love is all we need cos the truth is you need gifts in order to discuss them over drinks with your girlfriends.

Maybe they just can not live with the the fact that they don't really love the other person and valentine's day for them is a farce

Because most people are too cheap to plan and spend monies on this day, since they are overwhelmed with x-mas bills still coming in which sends them over the top. Leads them to break it off, they think it's one less stress reliever.

I don't know, but it's a really bad idea. I guess it's just to be like in the movies and cheesy that people do it. But it's hurtful, and people really shouldn't.
