How can I convert:
1) Ethanol to 1-bromo propane
2) Ethene to methanal
3) 2-methyl propene to ethanal??

1) EtOH + Ac2O --> EtOAc || EtOAc + Br- --> Et-Br

2) CH2=CH2 + KMnO4/alcohol --> 2 CH2O

3) CH3CHO? from (CH3)2C=CH2 I don't see it - sorry

I think you need to study the reactions that have been presented in your organic class and/or textbook. Then you need to look closely at each product and then at each starting material to see what reaction(s) in what sequence you need to use to do the conversions.

Only by learning the various reactions can you figure out how to do these kinds of problems.
