Associated Press February 12, 2007
MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Jim Doyle proposes taxing big oil companies more than $270 million over the next two years to help pay for the state's transportation needs.

Doyle wants to give the state Department of Revenue the authority to audit the earnings of oil companies. If the department finds that the tax is resulting in higher fuel prices, the offending company would be subject to fines in the amount of the gains reaped by the price increase or up to six months in jail.

Every gallon of gas in this country is taxed to pay for those things. Looks like Doyle is counting on people ignorance to siphon more money off the top. How many people are looking into the huge profits of insurance companies? Funny how that is don't ya think? Update. We live in a Capitalist economy and it has served us very well, since when has making money become a sin? Will Doyle also fund those same oil companies when they have their down years again?

No, unless their industry action immediatly causes damage to said roads and bridges. This is wrong, evil, and facist. It troubles me that Jim Doyle would even propose this matter. The government does not have this authority, and if it tries to exercise this authority, Jim Doyle and any other politician who passes the measure should be immediatly jailed.

Looks to me like maybe the soviets left the USSR and came here to the DNC instead.

OK, ONE: they already are by paying taxes and other government fees. TWO: the idea that "oil companies should pay their fair share" is absolutely socialistic, ridiculous, and stupid. What that basically tells the world is that we punish those that are successful in their business and reward those who fail. This kind of idealism is going to end the current capitalist system. Democrats that wish to do this are also advocates of nationalizing healthcare. Can't people see that we are moving in the direction of socialism with an over-inflated government with too much power over our daily lives? THINK PEOPLE THINK!

Why not have McDonalds keep up the National Parks while were at it? That is what Federal taxes are for.

I think it's a splendid idea since they aren't investing the money in alternative fuel sources.

Why not? After all, the use of those roads and bridges boosts their income.
