Yes, it is a total coincidence. The support for it (and other similiar things like the Bible code) come from pulling a bunch of unrelated things/events together and saying that there is a relationship. This is done without checking if there are more or less of these sorts of events for any other number or if there is a more likely reason for the pattern, for example, there are larger amounts of kids born 9 monthes after a major storm or black out, coincedence, I think not!

I emailed a friend of mine with a whole bunch of 23-enigma examples. He then responded with a short answer ridiculing the idea.

Weird thing though... he used 32 letters/characters in his negative response...... weird....

It seems to be mainly Hype: Similar to the way 42 was hyped in days gone by; They have to find some way to sell a Movie, kind of fun up to a point, but a little sad that people find meaning in it
