how can you get a phone line connected with broadband without taking out a contract for more than six months?

my daughter is a student on a short term lease, and would like to be connected to the internet.

Contact your local phone company and ask what the contract cancellation policy and penalty fee is. It may be worth it.

Sometimes broadband providers will let you go month-to-month without signing a contract but the rates are generally higher. You'll have to just call one in your area and ask them.

If you are UK based you will have a problem getting BT to agree to this arrangement.
