I currently attend community college and have switched majors three times. I have withdrew from courses, failed, and got an incomplete one semester. I'm beginning to think that college is not for me. I graduated high school in 2005 and still live at home. It sucks. I want to be able to have a steady job with a nice income for a soon-to-be 20 year old. What are other options I have rather than going to college, to achieve this goal?

College may not be for you at all. Or it may not be for you right now. It's smart of you to realise that this might not be a good fit right now. I agree - at least for now, you need to go in a different direction.

Many, many students go back to school later in life. Don't think that leaving school now will prevent you from returning later.

But you're right - you want to find something for a job that will allow you to support yourself, and which you might enjoy. I agree with others here - the trades may be a good choice for you. In fact, your own community college may offer 9 month and 1 year programs that will lead you to enter a trade upon graduation. My local cc offers automotive, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, LPN, police, firefighter, EMT, CNC Machinist - and in all of them, they help you find an apprenticeship, where needed, so you'll be qualified to work. Some of these fields are in high demand, and some can even be highly lucrative. Start with your existing school, and ask your advisor.

Other options for jobs that offer benefits, an okay salary, and which are sometimes fairly secure or allow you to advance without a diploma can be found:
-US Postal Service
-UPS
-Fedex
-DHL
-Local hospitals
-Local manufacturing plants
-The US Military
-Starbucks
-The Home Depot
-McDonalds

You may laugh at the last three, but, if you're a hard worker, these companies offer the opportunity to advance, tuition reimbursement, and medical benefits.

College isn't for everyone, but I wouldn't be discouraged if you changed majors frequently because most people do until they find something that they like. And get tutors if you find difficulty in your classes. College isn't always easy- that's y not everyone has a degree. If you simply do not think you want to be in college anymore look into trade schools.

Maybe you should get some professional training. Some vocational training is only 1-2 years education. You can always do an internship that has the possibility of hiring afterwards. Volunteer work might help you as well. If you build it up, you'll learn more job skills and are much more likely to get hired into a good job. Also, Work on building up your resume. If you aren't going to do education get as much certificates, licenses as possible such as First Aid, Food handler's etc...

There are great trades that you can do. Building, plumbing, electrician, automotive or aircraft mechanics work. You will still have to go to school to be certified, but you may be able to find work as a helper while attending classes. You can learn to be a barber/hairdresser, or a chef, and even work your way up in retail. You can be a Vet's assistant, a LVN nurse - you name it!!!

It sounds like your personality is to cut and run when you run into roadblocks. So make sure your restlessness doesn't spill over into your job training efforts or you could be in serious trouble for your lifetime.

We somehow acquired a fire extinguisher. We would head off to the gas station and fill it with water and air. This make the pressure enough to squirt it 40-50 feet. With bandannas on our faces, we'd drive around and squirt unsuspecting students and a few professors...omg..good times. Thinking of the evenings we spent doing this still makes me giggle. People are hilarious when they get squirted and can't figure out where it came from!!!
