Just another way of saying you were involved. Has anyone hear the term,"drop-en a dime on you". Commonly referred to as dimming you out (tell-en some one what you did-when a phone call only cost you a dime/$.10). Dishing out dimes infers that you assisted in the deed that was done. And there you have it.

When a person calls the police to give them information leading to an arrest, that persons assisted the police in their pursuit of that assailant. That's referred to as "dropping a dime."

When you pass the ball to a scoring teammate, you drop a dime. That to say you assisted in his pursuit of the bucket.

I am not sure.
I've imagined it as part of a stat line, in the dime slot.

points, assists, rebounds ... 13.2.3 -- sorry, it's all I got.
