-first you have to find the mean which is 70.3
-then you would find the distance each number is from the mean: for example, you would do: 70 is 0.3 from 70.3
72 is 1.7 from 70.3
71 is 0.7 from 70.3,
and you would do that for all the numbers...
-then you would square all the distances, so it would look like:
( ^ = squared) 0.3^2 + 1.7^2 + 0.7^2 etc....

-after adding all the squared numbers you would divide by by the amount of numbers at the beginning less 1...so you would divide by 9 because you originally had 10 numbers in the beginning
-then you should get the standard deviation (SD)

well i did it for you just in case: mean: 70.3
SD: 2.23

703" / 10 = 70.3 or 5 ' 10" average height
