AMD and Intel are companies that made CPUs.
They are different companies that compete against each other.

Core 2 Duo is a new technology developed by Intel. You can also refer it as a CPU series from Intel.
The CPU series of Intel will be
1. Intel Core 2 Extreme
2. Intel Core 2 Duo
3. Intel Pentium
etc...

Same as AMD, there are a few CPU series, and there are different CPUs from different series.

By comparing the prices, Intel is more expensive than AMD.
By looking at the quality, I think Intel is slightly better than AMD. But some people say AMD is better, but actually the difference won't be that obvious.

Dual core processers are the newest thing out which makes them more expensive. As far as Intel, AMD, Celeron, etc... it's like the difference between Coke, Pepsi, and RC cola... They're all the same thing just differnet brands. Intel and AMD are the Coke and Pepsi of the processor world... When you get to the rest it's like buying the off brand cola at the store. I've used both Intel and AMD chips over the past few years and have great preformance with both. You can usually get an AMD chip a little cheaper so I usually get those.

Intel and AMD, etc. are all name brands. Dual core are the newest thing so they are more expensive, AMD are the cheaper ones, the only difference I have found is that if you are using any type of business software or software that requires a lot of processor power the AMD tend to lock up or freeze your computer. Hope this helped you.
