The Mother Road and the Will Rogers Highway[1]) was a highway in the U.S. Highway system. One of the original federal routes, US 66 was established on November 11th, 1926, though signs did not go up until the following year.[2] It originally ran from Chicago, Illinois through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California before ending at Los Angeles for a total of 2,448 miles[3] (3,939 km).

One end begins right in downtown Chicago near the Art Institute and the other end ends in Los Angeles. In between you have desert and farms. A radio host in Chicago named Steve Dahl did the trip a couple years ago and kept a log. If you google Steve Dahl route 66 I am sure you can come up with something.

Route 66 goes from St. Louis all the way to Los Angeles. According to the song lyrics, the big towns you'll hit are: St. Louis, MO; Joplin, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; Amarillo, TX; Gallup, NM; Flagstaff, AZ; Kingman, AZ; Barstow, CA; San Bernardino, CA; and finishing off in L.A.
