Last year we didn't do much for v day because we had just moved up to Atlanta and we were strapped for cash. This year we're doing a bit better but not swimming in $$. To try to make up for last year, this is what I've gotten her so far:
- I wrote her a poem (This is the 1st poem Ive ever written for someone)
- Stuffed talking puppies
- A coupon book that says good for 1 massage, bath, candle lit dinner, etc...

I feel really bad because of last year, I want to make this one special since its our 1st as husband and wife.

Any advice from the ladies would help. Any ideas of anything else I can do to make it extra special?

Thanks

Yes---It's very romantic. Just the fact that you want it to be special for her is romantic. The only thing that will land you in the "dog house" is if you forget Valentine's Day and act like it's just another day. You're a very thoughtful husband!

It is all about the kind of person she is. Some women only want diamonds :) other like a home cooked dinner. I like the time and thought someone puts into the gift. The coupon book is great. So what about say, a burnt disc of a bunch of her fav songs. The poem is great. You are newly weds, if you or someone you know can draw, you could take her fav. wedding picture, or just a great picture and have someone or you draw it and frame it. You could do a little treasure hunt around your house, and have riddles that lead to the next riddle to finally find the talking puppies or the poem or whatever. Get her the biggest tub of her Fav ice cream and give her a huge cooking spoon and tell her to go nuts. ;) I hope these ideas help, or give you better ones.
good luck

Me being a woman,I personally love the things that you already came up with.If you want to take it a step further, run your wife a candle lit bath.Go out and buy some tea candles because, they float on water in the tub.Whatever her favorite drink is,put it in a wine glass and, serve it to her while she is in the tub.Don't 4get the radio with her favorite music playing while she's relaxing in the tub. Also,I think a home cooked meal prepared by you, with candle light would be a big hit also.Out of everything that people suggest to you,the best gift you can give your wife is YOUR HEART!LOVE HER

A single long-stemmed red rose would be nice. You could also start a tradition here, one for your first V-Day, two for your second, etc. Roll up the poem and tie it with a nice ribbon to the rose and put the rose in the stuffed talking puppy's arms along with the coupon book. Serve that to her on a breakfast tray in bed. That would be my idea of a VERY romantic start to the day. If you are able to do it, hide little Hershey's kisses in places you know she will be throughout the day--examples, underwear drawer, make-up case, pocketbook, That way she will get sweet little reminders of you all day long. Oh, and don't forget the 'I Love You' part. Ladies like hearing that.

You can clear out the furniture in a room and make a table w/ table cloth and set it for two with candles and make her fav dinner, or if your are really strapped for cash have mac and cheese whatever. It doesn't matter what you spend just make her know how much you love her and that she is the most special woman in the world to you. Good luck if only every woman had a man that wanted to make her feel like you want your wife too.

I think what you have sounds great! I'm a hopeless romantic myself & I would love all of those things. The poem is especially touching, given you've never done that before. It shows alot of thought and caring & maybe was'nt easy for you to do. The candlelit dinner would be best if you cooked it yourself, if you are able to do that. Gifts don't need to be expensive; in my opinion, the best ones are the ones that come from the heart, not the wallet.

To top this off you need to cook her favorite dish for dinner(candlelight dinner that is) and add her favorite champagne or whatever her favorite drink is and right after dinner and just before the chocolate covered strawberries(dessert) read your poem and let her know its straight from the heart. By that time she should be melting ready to take the rest of the night up in the bedroom where you have her lingerie (that you bought) laid out on the bed. Have fun and enjoy.

sounds so sweet to me. Only problem I see is that I would have no clue because I do not know her.
Try getting a feel for what she wants by thinking about what she does for you. In most cases we do for others what we would want done for us.
For me, I will work that day (not a legal holiday) so here is what I would want.
***
*the man should be fresh and already showered, food should be mostly ready before time
*Rent her favorite movie (or one she missed but wanted to see)
Load it in the player... so all is needed is one touch to start the cuddle session.
*buy a bottle of bubble bath and have the tub waiting, hot and fresh (timing is everything)and scrub her back. (Go slow - - anticipation is soooo sexy) No over the top advances.
* her favorite romantic song on the player... soft music
* DO NOT GET INTO THE BATH (not yet, not even if she beggs)
*Get her relaxed totally first.
*Then while she soaks put the finishing touches on the meal others have suggested....
*NO HEAVY FOODS ... not with romance on the plate for desert. You both want only a small tasteful experience (not a time to show off moms stroganoff) you can munch more later as a late night snack
*Take her that glass of wine (or another drink she would like... I am a non-drinker and preferr hot cider in the winter time)
*Keep a camera handy - loaded. Take only tasteful nice shots of her... Remember for her to get the most mileage out of this bath she will want to show the gals at work the proof while they scream in disbelief.
*Assist her in getting out of the tub, towel dry her slowly, spritz her with something light smelling
*Have either a nice light outfit (nightie) or get her a new one... the garment is not important but you need it to have something to remove later... remember anticipation... anticipation...
* Make sure she eats... go slow. (Get at least one shot of her at the table, but if the camera can be set to timer... get both of you)
*at least put on the movie (or her favorite tv show.)
*THEN simply enjoy your evening. But the sweetest thing is the anticipation and showing off the next few days at work can be great too. So what about their long stem roses! It is NOT the money spent but the effect of being a thoughtful loving romantic.

One large red rose and a necklace with a small heart shaped trinket with a wedding photo of the two of you inside. Silver necklaces can be pretty cheap this time of year. Also you can get a bottle of pink sparkling fruit juice to toast to your relationship while dinning over a small dinner you've prepared. Grocery stores have bottles of sparkling juices for no more that two bucks. Good luck!

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
