the ceramic surface that surrounds the electrode. 4 stroke, (Harley Evo). The metal edge is pretty dark, but the ceramic portion is not as dark tan as I think it should be.

the part surrounding the electrode, and the 'bar' that's right above it. a golden tan is excellent. ash grey is slightly lean, but not enough to cause damage. paper white is too lean; engine will run very hot. coal black...too rich.

It is the ceramic portion that you want to look at...tan is good! Also look at the electrode area to make sure it is dry, clean and doesnt have any carbon build up.

You need a a magnifier with a light,the ceramic portion at the bottom is what gives the best reading.
