I'd stand in the seat next to my dad in the pick up- crawl in his lap and steer- Ride in the BED of the pick up down the highway.
It's amazing what a difference 20 years makes.

No and some of our old cars didn't have seat belts in the back or the front. We used to travel by car to visit family with a large gray metal table like thing hooked over the front seats so the back seat was just a long flat surface. What a way to travel!

In a family of three, we had two seat belts on the back. I used to sit in the middle of the rear seat without one so I could have quite possibly flown out of the front window. But hey, that was in the Eighties. Who cared back then anyway?

The word seat belt only existed in the world of planes when I was a young boy and even then ONLY when you took off or landed.

I would lay in the back seat across the "hump" and inhale the fumes form the old blue ford wagon... I was the baby of the family and my sibs were in their teens, so there wasn't a seat for me..lol...and sometimes I would sit on my mom's lap.

I've worn a seatbelt all my life (thank you, responsible parents o' mine). They've saved my life on more then one occasion, and should ALWAYS be worn by all occupants of a car.
After all, in certain states, if your passenger dies in a car wreck that was your fault you're looking at some pretty ugly murder/manslaughter charges.
If they're not all buckled up, your car better not be moving. It's not just a law, it's common sense!
