I have been succesfully selling on Ebay for most of the past year. first of all, register with the site, it's free and then click on sell. It will take you through each process step by step. don't guess at the postage. The Royal Mail website will give you detailed price lists based on size and weights. It's handy to keep some scales near the computer, as I have, my kitchen scales live on my scanner.
If you set your starter price low, beware, it may go for that low price, so if you really want a higher price, either start the auction higher or put it on a set price sale, not an auction. That can sell straight away but the price will not rise.
It's also a good idea to get a digital camera so that you can show people what you are trying to sell, although it doesn't mean things without pictures won't sell, I sold loads of things before I got my camera.
As for the charges. It costs nothing to buy on Ebay but selling does cost. It's up to you how much you want to pay but most things cost at least 15p to list if you start the price at 99p; it goes up from that depending on the starter price. The first photo is free but an additional picture costs 12p. Adding a Buy It Now facility to an auction listing costs a small amount too and then there are other little additions like having your listing in Bold etc.
It may not seem like a lot but they all add up. I list perhaps three items a day these days and my average monthly bill is about forty pounds.
There's also a charge on the final sale price but that is taken off there and then and doesn't add up to a huge bill.
Then you have to decide how you want to be paid, I recommend PayPal. Ebay's banking system, there's a small charge (about six pounds) per month for usising it but it is so convenient and you can use your PayPal balance if you want to buy anything you see on Ebay and more and more online businesses are accepting it too. However, you can be paid by personal cheque, postal order, bankers draft etc. It really is up to you.
I think I've covered the main points of getting started and you learn as you go along. Just don't expect to make a huge amount of money from it. Some do but they make it their primary income business and work at it full time. I treat it like a hobby and as such, it's great fun, especially when on occasion something does take off unexpectedly and you have a bidding war on your hands.

Here's how eBay works:
A seller lists an item on eBay, from antiques to cars, books to sporting goods. The seller chooses to accept only bids for the item (an auction-type listing) or to offer the Buy It Now option, which allows buyers to purchase the item straight away at a fixed price.
In an online auction, the bidding opens at a price the seller specifies and remains on eBay for a certain number of days. Buyers then place bids on the item. When the listing ends, the buyer with the highest bid wins.
In a Buy It Now listing, the first buyer willing to pay the seller's price gets the item.
Buying and selling on eBay is easy and it's fun. Best of all, you'll never know what you can find.
The following Learning Centre tours will show you the basics of buying and selling on eBay and will help you get going.

Click on this it will tell you all you need to know
http://money.howstuffworks.com/ebay.htm
EBay is a global phenomenon -- the world's largest garage sale, online shopping center, car dealer and auction site with 147 million registered users in 30 countries as of March 2005. You can find everything from encyclopedias to olives to snow boots to stereos to airplanes for sale. And if you stumble on it before the eBay overseers do, you might even find a human kidney or a virtual date.
You can pay for an item on eBay using a variety of methods, including money order, cashier's check, cash, personal check and electronic payment services like PayPal and BidPay. It's up to each seller to decide which payment methods he'll accept. PayPal is the easiest way to buy something on eBay, because eBay owns PayPal. The PayPal payment process is already built into any auction listing on eBay.
Just as you can buy almost anything on eBay, you can sell almost anything, too. Using a simple listing process, you can put all of the junk in your basement up for sale to the highest bidder. Lots of people sell their old laptop once they've upgraded, the clothing their kids have grown out of or the brand new couch they bought on final sale without realizing it wouldn't fit in their den. Some people even make a business of eBay by opening their own "eBay store." When you sell an item on eBay, you pay listing fees and turn over a percentage of the final sale price to eBay.
Once you register (for free) with eBay, you can access all of your eBay buying and selling activities in a single location called "My eBay."

I have been selling on eBay since the beginning - eight years or so, I think. Today, it is EASY and you already have a lot of good advice!
Feedback ratings are important. I would recommend you register with PayPal and make a few small purchases. If you have a feedback rating of 10 positive, you will have more credibility with buyers (mine is over 3000).
Be cautious & have fun! there is no need to pay someone to sell your items for you. They generally charge 30% and it's very easy to do it yourself. Good luck!

You need to go over to ebay and read, read and read about how to sell items. Do not just go join and list something without knowing how everything works.

someone sells something they don't want by taking a picture of it and up loading it to the site. Then if someone wants it they bid for it, the highest bidder gets it usually one auction lasts a week.
But be careful you read the small print someone paid 500 pounds for a picture of an xbox 360. Hope this can help.

It seems quite complicated at first but once you have taken all the steps it is a great way to sell unwanted stuff. You need to register first giving your details : name, address, contact number etc, then bank details to make and receive payments. Then once all that is done you're ready to sell.
