He is an awful manager, but he is playing with a team full of over rated players. People are mentioning the run of the mill foreign imports...but there is a reason for that. An average english player will cost 3 times as much as most foreigners of similar ability. Lets be honest was Rio Ferdinand (cost £31.12 million) worth twice as much as Sami Hypia (3 million), Kolo Toure (150,00.00),
Phillipe Senderos ( 2.5 million ) and Nemanja Vidic (7.2 million) put together?
All I'm saying is that the English side is loaded with over rated players who believe their own hype. McClaren can't handle them, he tried to make an example of Beckham and it back fired. At that level he is clueless. If England are to genuinely improve they need a manager who won't be afraid to throw Nolan and Barton in if Gerrard and Lampard play badly. Someone who isn't intimidated by the egos and the millionaires. But the level of expectation in England, ( fuelled by 1 tournament win 41 years ago ) puts prospective managers off. I mean if you supported a club who hadn't won a trophy in 40 years, would you expect to win something every season? And yet that is the pressure any prospective England manager faces. Who could be bothered with that? If England want to attract a top class manager they need to lower their expectations and be prepared to let whoever it is run things their way, and have faith in the man they choose instead of shooting him for niot winning the World Cup.

Yes, yes, yes.
He was not the first choice for the position, in fact he wasn't second or third choice.
He should be sacked even if we win both games. McClaren has been a total disaster as England manager. 11 games and he has only managed 4 wins, that is an awful record, and we should replace him now. And before all the so called football pundits ask who would manage England if he where to go? Well anyone is better than him. He has no imagination, he is tactically inept, he cannot make a decision to save his life, and when he does (dropping Beckham) he males a complete ar*e of it. Middlesborough could not wait to see the back of this man. He took them to a League cup final, but they still wanted him out. The reason? He played boring one dimention football. Just as England are doing now. He became a yes man with Sven, and he is continuing in the same mould now. I cannot see England qualifying for the Euro's if this buffoon is left in charge.
Those pr*tts at the FA should own up to there mistake, and get him out now, before he drags England into the mud completely.

No. Who else is there? 'Big Sam'? Don't make me laugh, he's never won anything and never will. All he knows is hoof and run - he would be Graham Taylor Mark 2. Stuart Pearce - one for the future maybe - but not now, too soon. 'El Tel'? he's had his day. Bring back Sven!!?? I don't think so!
We have to stick with Mclaren at least till the Euros 08 are over. There's no alternative. It's not Mclaren's fault our squad is so meagre. Only about 25% of the premiership players are English. Too many run of the mill foreign imports is leading to a decline in the production of international standard English players. I'm all for the Henrys' and Drogbas' etc, but there are too many average overseas players blocking the development and growth of young English lads. That's the real problem.

Yes bring on Terry Venables...send Mclaren packing...and yes bring back Becks....we always expect great things all the time from Becks but he is a good mainstay and a great captain just needs to more generous with who takes the free kicks.
No 'El Tel' he deserves a chance he is the only one that speaks the truth. Get rid of McLaren now...........or we are lost. If he stays on as manager the only way the England team can win is if they have team members who can take the initiative and be none conformists...someone like Teddy Sherringham I know he won't be back but we need players with some fire in their bellies like terry has.
Yes and totally agree about too many foreign players blocking the up and coming talents of british players. But then that is now in all walks of life...no never said that sorry!
EDIT Can someone explain how he came to get the job in first place...is it because it's a Scottish sounding name?

Even if he wins his next two he's never going to win anything except maybe the qualifying group. He never won anything in his time at middlesborough apart from the Mickey Mouse Cup (Carling cup).
Every other big team in the world either has a championship winning coach or a coach who was a legend in his playing time. We pick a coach who was closer to relegation with a half decent squad then a championship last year.
I really hope they lose one and put in a bad performance in the other then the pressure will really be on the FA to get rid of him.

yes yes yes. he's not international quality. if we're gonna play ugly football pick the players who can do that. Barton, Nolan, Johnson. if your gonna play passing football play a well balenced pacey team. becks should stay out he won't make it to the world cup give lennon and SWP a chance. neville (both) same applies blood the young talent play richards at RB give him some games. Do not play crouch on his own. yes owen and rooney are injured but defoe and johnson have more ability. Big Sam could do it but really and truthfully if we want to win we need to go foreign but someone with credit. we should strike a deal for Arsene Wenger. by far the best manger around. that or Stuart Pearce and Tony Adams co managers with vinnie jones head assistant. if thay lost they would beat on the player.LOL

To be fair McClaren doesn't really have much of a team to work with. People have too high expectations for a team that just isn't good enough. Add to that the injuries to some of the 'better' players and what do you really expect McClaren to be able to do?! he can't work miracles you know! Also having people say things like this isn't really going to help is it. Right from the start people have been against him and have never really given him a fair go.

Yes, McClaren should be sacked. He is clueless in his team selection and tactics. His only contribution to the England team was to get rid of Beckham. Other than that, he is playing the same team that Sven had. He has a choice of every English players in the Premiership and Coca Cola Championship League in the likes of Nolan, Barton, Defoe, Johnson, and claimed there are no other players who are of international pedigree. He is sticking to over-rated prima donnas who are picking the team themselves and played Lampard and Gerrard together. Anyone knows they are similar players and always exposed their defence as they always want to surge forward. And playing Crouch as a lone striker? Come on, Crouch is NOT versatile enough to play in that position, and this shows how shallow McClaren is. McClaren has Venables as his assistant show how inexperienced and inept he is. Venables is more experienced and is most probably more suitable than McClaren. At least Venables' record is far superior than McClaren's and even if Venables is not the preferred choice, McClaren should not deserve it. As far as I can see, McClaren is not going to win anything for England, especially with a bunch of money grabbing prima donnas who preferred to play well for their clubs than their countries. He should choose players who are suitable and will play with their hearts for the country. However, I doubt he will do it, because he is too stupid to know that and too busy counting his money in his bank accounts.

The FA announced an emergency meeting around 10-ish last night & I think it was confirmed about 10 this morning. I wouldn't mind the sack for 2 million quid!

Look if they are going to get rid of Steve McClaren it would definitely be better to do it sooner rather than later surely, then can they make sure the next Manager is in for the long haul, it can not do any Football Team any good knowing their Manager`s head is on the chopping block.
