a cheque is valid for 6 months from the date written on the cheque. It has been known for some banks not to check the date though ! But becuase it is only valid for 6 months once written, you would have some comeback with the bank. Cheques unwritten have no expiry. I know this because i used to work for a banking group which was an umbrella for 3 banks. It was the same for all of them.

It depends on the bank the cheque is drawn on but the standard is 6 months from the date of issue.

I think you'll find that after six months it dies. Most cheques have "Must be presented within six months" printed on them.
