I've been on the shot this time for about two months, I haven't had any problems in the past, and did gain weight the previous times. I never had my period when I was on it before, and last month I had a long period and expelled some fleshy clots, I'm thinking that it was a misscarrage of sorts, and now I have gained quite a bit of weight. I don't want to make my boyfriend worry, we live together and it is leading to marriage and family, but now is not the right time for children (hense the BC).

I've thought about going to a different method, but I've had good luck with Depo in the past, and I do know that personally it takes my body about 6mo to a year (depending on how long I've been on the shot) to get back into a normal cycle...I guess it's something I need to discuss with my BF!

No...that is normal. It happened to me when I was on the Depo shot. It's the bodies way of cleaning itself out. The weight gain may be due to other factors often stemmed from how we think or feel. I would have a physical done w/labs to ensure that the weight gain may not be a phsical cry..that there is an imbalance somewhere. The Depo shot is a very effective form of birth control..as there is no chance of skipped pills, etc. However...I do not recommend it for long term. It affected me phycologically and also...I heard they use the same sort of method to sterilize cows.

You should go to the doctor and make sure everything is alright. The Depo shot has a different effect on different girls. I was on it for about 3 years and I never had a period. Another girl I know tried it and didn't stop bleeding for the 3 months the hormones were in her system.

However, everyone that I know who has tried it, has gained a ridiculous amount of weight. I recommend trying a different BC.

I was on teh depo shot for 2 cycles, and had nothing but problems. I tried to get pregnant after and it took me 18 months...only to find that the shot had stopped my body from ovulating. Talk to your BF about your different birth control options, as it affects him also. Research all your options, then both of you make a decision.

You SHOULDN'T be. If you are worried call your doctor or take a test. I would still call your doctor about the blood and heavy period, but I think those are side effects. I know that it can also make you gain weight, but it shouldn't be more than 5 lbs (I think). Yeah, give your doc a call. Good luck.
