No music is best, but if you need to, play it very low like background music. I would suggest Enya, Beatles or Abba (Yes abba all their music is upbeat and positive) Most importantly for every hour of study you should take a 15 min break or your brain loses efficiency.

I was going to say Mozart, but since you dont want to hear that Ok I agree with Enya especially the cd Watermark or maybe try Muse-Absolution.

I listen to calm music like Mae or Death Cab for Cutie. When I'm doing math, I like crazy technical stuff like Dragonforce, The Mars Volta, and Fall of Troy because I'm a guitarist and when I hear that, I think about all the modes and scales they're using and that involves math, so it makes it a little easier.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but NO MUSIC is the best for doing homework. Kids have been telling me for years they do better when they listen to music during homework. University studies have proved them all wrong.
You are going to have a hard time coming to any other conclusion, considering the above studies.
