The Government have recently passed laws in the UK to try and suppress live
music and dance. Pubs which could previously offer work to solo singers or
duos now have to pay for a special licence and can only have 12 of these per
year. Even school Xmas concerts need to be licensed.

If you don't know there is a UK government web site where anyone can now
start a petition and that's what is being done. we've just received the
following email which explains things more clearly and gives the site
address . If you care about keeping music live please take the time to sign
the petition...link to sign petition is here..

I'm guessing the same reason for the introduction of certain parts of the Criminal justice Act of 94 (63)

It seems worryingly opressive to me, and any signatures on the petition would be a great help. I realise this is hardly a question but hey, I have to try some way. Thanks!

This is absolutely absurd! What's next? Ban exhibitions of paintings and other artwork? No wonder kids are getting less and less education these days! Why don't they ban tossers from making ridiculous laws like this?
I'll have a look at the link you've put here in a minute I just had to get it out of my system immediately.

Bloody sensible move. Pubs are for drinking and conversation. Al we got when some of our local pubs did music were a load of drunken youths spilling on to the street at midnight, and creating mayhem.

Perhaps there will cease to be a proliferation of half-baked three-chord guitar tab merchants caterwauling covers, and a return to competent, trained musicians performing in properly licenced (and therefore safe) venues.

I don't want to be a killjoy, but , as a jazz trumpeter and keyboard player, I have played in pubs with no proper fire-escapes and where plugging in the amps has fused the circuit board.

I have to say that I fully support the Governments tough stance on live music because, let's be honest, a lot of it is crap.
