I am a song writer and I would like to know how I can sell these songs to recording artists. I've been writing my entire life and my friends and family have always said that I should be a songwriter one day. How can I put my work out there? What steps do I need to take?

You need to get with someone and make a demo of your best tunes. Unfortunately, most record label execs don't accept unsolicited material, so that's an obstacle you're going to have to find your way around. You could make a record and put it on Myspace, maybe you could be discovered that way.
