I have invented a kind of clothing and I would like to get a patent. How do I do this?

You can download forms here (link below). I would recommend that you go read the book "Patent it Yourself" or something similar at your local library or bookstore.

Obtaining a patent is expensive, and does not always pay off. All that a patent does is give you the right to sue someone if they copy your idea. You would need a marketing plan in order to make money from your idea, with or without a patent.

In the U.S., you have up to twelve months, after the first time that you offer your idea for sale or show it to others, to apply for a patent. A year after you've first show or described your idea to someone else, it is considered to be public knowledge (35 U.S.C. 102(b)).

you have to create a claims of your invention or product improvements. you have to check all prior or similar iventions against yours. to have to file a patent applications to the us patents and trademarks office. the uspto examiner will review your claims. once approved they will notify you. please go to thei website or consult a patent attorney for details.
