A person becomes a celebrity when, for some reason, they attract and hold the attention of a large number of people. Talent is only one of several reasons this may occur.

Not in this day and age they don't. What talent did Anna Nicole have? She couldn't act, she couldn't sing and in the past few years, she couldn't even speak right.
She was a "celebrity" simply because she got plastic surgery to alter her looks and body. Any bimbo can do that and pose nude. Why is that considered talent?
And what talent does Paris Hilton really have?

There are different standards for each type of person. If you're a white woman, you have to be beautiful, if you're a white man you have to have a pulse. If you're a black guy you have to be super-funny or really handsome and a good actor. If you're a black woman you have to be SUPER funny, really beautiful, a good actress and you have to know somebody who knows some somebody.

i think that used to be true. but now, all it takes is enough people caring what happens to that person for them to become a celebrity. for instance, look at paris hilton. she only landed the movie rolls and cd deal (good grief, why did they ever let her make a cd?!?) because she was famous. and she only got famous for being a ditzy blonde who liked to party.

Sometimes. Usually they become famous because they're related to or connected to someone who's already famous or influential. Almost ANY celebrity, you can connect back somehow to someone of influence in Hollywood.
