Every single operator does a credit check for pay monthly phones because:

a) they are giving you a phone worth £200-£300 and trusting you to keep paying for it via your monthly charge until the end of your contract. (The phone is never "free", the cost is just included in the monthly line rental.)

b) you are using their services to rack up a (potentially large) monthly bill before you pay for them.

Some operators will take you on if you pay a cash deposit (about £200+) to reduce the risk of you not paying your bill, but if you've got £200 in your hand you might as well buy a nice Pay As You Go phone and save yourself the hassle of a contract.

Sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted, but if you can't pass a credit check at the moment you'll have to get a Pay As You Go phone for a while.

Try www.dialaphone.co.uk

I'm not sure whether they do credit checks or not, but I got my first contract phone from them after being knocked back elsewhere.

There is the added possibility though, that it is the actual networks that carry out the credit check, and not the agent in between that supplies the phone.

I use mobileshop.com and get a contract with no cash back, because if you pay a bit more you'll get more minutes and texts overall. The cashback is a headache to claim back.
