Besides all the answers, don't forget the built all the caravelas ships for the explorations that took place at the time...and they knew lots about maps...Viva Portugal...Brazilian here...heehehhehehe

it wasnt really a school, they just studied maps and made plans. prince henry did it. but they didnt really train explorers. it was really expensive to have exploring expeditions and everyone thought that explorers needed to put down the crackpipe.
