I'm going to be going on birth control very soon. I would like to know how long it takes before it works.

It depends on what BC method you are using. Most pills take only 1 WEEK to be effective (some people think it is 1 month, but that is a myth for many brands of pills!!). The depo shot, another popular form of BC, takes 24 hours to be effective.

It depends on the type of birthcontrol you are taking. Doctors say that the pills take about 30 days and that you should use a back-up method during that time. However, the start being effective after the first 7 days (first row of active pills). Here is a good site on all different methods of birth control.

It depends on what type of birth control you are going to be taking. On average the pill takes about 1 month to be effective. The shot, such as Depo Provera, is effective within 24 hours. To be sure ask your doctor how long you need to use an alternate form of birth control.

Usually it's effective within the first 24 hours of taking it. Depends on what you are taking, too. 24-48 hours.

They say about a month. You should use a condom as extra protection until you have your first period while on the pill.
