I have a broken ankle and I've been using the regular crutches for several months, but I bought some forearm crutches in the thrift store. They're much better. I wish I'd discovered them earlier, rather than now when I'm almost off crutches.

You need a certain amount of muscle in your upper arms and shoulders for the forearm crutches. The underarm crutch uses bone structure for support . I agree with you, underarm crutches are painful, but when you need to be completely off the injured limb , they are the best.
