Natalie said at one of their concerts that she was ashamed that Pres. Bush was also from Texas. There was a huge backlash to this with fans burning their CDs and getting refunds for their concerts. Now that people have started to agree with her they are getting a lot more positive attention. I think their Grammys were just an apology to them.

They used their freedom of speech right and said that they were ashamed that Bush was from Texas.
Immediately, people started basing them because they spoke their mind. They didn't "fit the mold" of what country musicians should be. And that's just ignorant.
The Dixie Chicks never once sold out to regain their fans back. They stood by what they said and what they believe and because of that, I think the Chicks should be respected. How many other celebrities would have done that? Most celebrities would have apologized, changed their story and all would be well again. But the Chicks didn't. They stood their ground and never threw away their beliefs.
I completely and totally respect them and I love their new album. I think they deserve all the awards, if not more, that they were given.
More people should be like them. Stand up for what you believe, even if you stand alone.

I answered this same question last night before the awards and was thrilled to see them sweep every category they were nominated for.
I think that speaks volumes in itself.
In a UK concert they said they said they didn't support Bush more or less, and then all the "patriots" of country radio banned their music and they were told to "shut up and sing" or they would be killed.
So that is what their song "I'm not ready to make nice" is all about...hypocrital of some people to claim you live in a democratic country and then treat them that way. They were basically called "unpatriotic" and shunned....that is no surprise to the rest of the world who can see how self centered these "patriotic" people really are. A little on the sick and paranoid side is more like it. Maybe they should shut up and shovel manouer don't you think? Worried terrorists are going to come and blow up your cow farm?
Glad to see that most of America stepped up to the plate in support of true democracy. Those Texans are the weirdest lot of people in the world anyhow. Money and lack of brains just don't mix too well...you didn't need a "Jed" for president.
And Chass, Canada welcoming embraced them....all the people with brains tend to migrate here. I would have told that yodeller to go F himself too.
5 Grammies...this is far from being thier last album.

They said that they are ashamed that President Bush is from their home state of Texas. Here's the exact quote:
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
Considering what Bush was doing at the time, and that they were playing to a foreign crowd, I can understand. I can also understand why people would be mad at them over it. That was a very politically polarized time--I don't think there were too many people in the country who didn't care about Bush--just about everyone supported or opposed him.

The criticized the President while in England something the fans considered tabboo and so country fans boycotted the concerts and requested that country radio not play them..then Natalie opened her mouth again and said that they didn't consider themselves "country" so country stations said "Okay if you don't consider yourselves country then we as country stations won't play you."
Rolling Stone which is pretty much a mouthpiece for the angry liberal set embraced them and they became political martyrs. getting a Grammy may seem like payback but if record sales and ticket sales stay low then this maybe their last album.

They was over sea's (i believe), and talking bad about the President . Then Toby Kieth commented about it and the fatt dixie chick ran her mouth some more and wore a shirt that said
F.U.T.K. [*uck you toby keith]. Counrty music has always been about loving America, not putting it down. Honestly, if they wasn happy with the president and the counrty, why didn't they just move to Canada?
