Say you apply for a college. The college will traditionally send you a rejection or acceptance letter. What happens to / where is the original application that you sent to the college? Is it destroyed? Is it kept on file? Who keeps it on file? I need to know!

Are they allowed to share applications with the former high school, former university, and parents? Hopefully not. I know high schools and universities are required to share information with the prospective university, but I wouldn't want it to be the other way around. I just don't want my past schools to inadvertently find information about my present & future life. If I wanted them to, I could communicate with them myself. Rather than them digging up my records. I also don't think parents should see their child's application essay, since I know students who write about how much their parents affected them, it's so touching it could make anyone choke.
