It isn't teaching children how to save their money.

They may spend it irresponsibly.

The parents are rewarding the child for no reason at all, and therefore they can easily become spoiled.

The purpose of money in general is to facilitate exchange. When we leave pennies fo rothers at the cash register, throw them in the garbatge, they become a burden to our transactions. Many economist agree that we should do away with the penny, and round to the nearest $0.05. There are also more spin-offs to this idea, such as making the penny worth $0.05 and still roundign off. That way, we don't have to throw them away and they are now of use.

Spend it irresponsibly? That is the very thing that got us through the recession in 2001, consumption function, America's desire to disave and our propentual to spend.

Nothing wrong with pocket money. Pocket money is a good thing. It tells me you are paying a flat $.79 for your candy bar and putting it on plastic. Oh yes, yuk it up. People are making bellow dollar purchases on plastic.

America depends on you, spend baby, spend.
