The illustration shows her facial expression, body language and action in fright. The picture shows the furniture covered with dusk and Amelia is waiting for Mrs. Rodgers approval of her task.
The picture conveys about the main character, Amelia Bedeila as a housekeeper because she is wearing a housekeeper uniform and an apron. Amelia Bedeila’s body language, facial expression and actions shows that she is happy to finish the chores around the house.

Amelia Bedelia is a book about idioms. She takes everything very literally. It's amusing to the kids at that reading level. When she was asked to draw the curtains, she literally drew on them with pencil or pen or something instead of shutting them.
