A gentleman always carries a handkerchief. Normally it's only used as a hand towel(men's rooms are so often out of paper), to wipe glasses or given to a damsel in tears (in which case you let her keep it).
They are only used for nose blowing in case of emergency. If there are no tissues available or they are too far away to get one without getting your sneeze all over yourself, or someone else. At times like these, you'll be glad you have one in your pocket.
Some old fashioned traditions still have practical uses.

I don't use them, but my fiance does, he has really coarse stubble and gets bits of tissue in it if he uses paper tissues- not a good look. He used to dry them out on the radiator for use the next day!!! Since I moved in I have bought him heaps more and they get put in the wash bin that night. I agree they're not very nice, but better than walking about covered in flecks of paper- and environmentally friendly!

Uuuuggggghhhhhh::::: Who the heck would want a cloth filled with SN*T in their pocket/bag, Disgusting foul habit. People who use linen handkerchiefs are normally the ones who closely examine the contents after use, Weird or what.

Why is it that you all get excited about snots but how many of you have walked around with skid marks in your underwear? hmm? Aren't skid marks worse then snots? I think so. I'm not saying that handkerchiefs are the best but lets face it. You don't throw away your underwear and you wash them in with your clothes. So what is the difference if it's snots? Both are really gross but the butt wins out. I don't get it.

My 80 yr old Dad does and my mother washes it no problem because she's used to it. I think it's the most disgusting, germ-spreading thing ever, but it's their generation is before kleenex.

Hi, I think they are one of the most gross things ever invented and I would flatly refuse to wash them - EVER - definitely tissues only in our house.

My husband uses handkerchiefs and I wash them. I'm not at all put off by them, there is nothing that my husband does that would put me off! He is a perfect gentleman.
