What is the difference b/w?

What is the difference b/w Area, total area and surface area and how do I calculate the surface area of a pyramid?

Area refers to the base area only. Surface area for the faces only. Total area is area of base plus surface.
Surface area is called lateral area. Area = 1/2 pl where p = perimeter and l = slant height.

Total area is lateral area plus base area.
