German is an excellent language. It is alot easier to learn than French , also i know this sounds daft but dutch is also very similar to german so if you went to holland you may beable to undestand some of it. Also german is the most popular lanuage in eastern europe. CHOOSE GERMAN :)

If you can take both, why not do so.
The main reason you might consider German is that you said you want a career in science. A lot of scientific research is done in German. However, if you must make a choice, I'd still advice you to take French if it has to be one or the other. French (which is based on Latin) is a good basis for learning other languages later.

i had to make the same decision 5 years ago, and now i study german at a level!I find it very difficult, but I believe that it is thought more of that french...because less people learn it it and apparently it is harder(this is what i have been told)I believe it is also quite useful for science students.I say take whatever language you enjoy most, and the one with the best teacher...if you don't like it and don't have a teacher that you can get along with, then it will be so much more difficult.good Luck!

Neither one is more difficult to learn than the other, just different. I learned and speak both of them + 4 others and now I'm learning my first Asian language. I have taught ESL for a long time. ANY language can be learned, period, it just depends on the intent of the learner. Both languages are very useful, but obviously you can't do both at this time. So, I would suggest French as it is the #2 language spoken in Europe and around the world. Spanish is #3, but that's not one of your options. If you are still totally undecided you could do the UNscientific thing and put 2 folded pieces of paper in a hat and draw :) Good luck in your future. :) (hope this helped a little)

Go for German. It is MUCH easier to learn - when written down they are similiar to the English versions.
A lot of people already speak French, so having a German speaker around is handy.
In the physics world I have come across more people from a German Background than a French one.

I did both languages through to O Level, but French has been more useful.
German is very useful if you have invasive tendencies towards other countries and feel you need a modicum of 'Lebensraum'. 'Vorsprung Durch Technik' or 'Deutschland Uber Alles' as the Germans still like to infer.
I also did Latin which is a bastard language to learn. Latin just isn't contemporary. Wittering on about the Hellespont and loafing-around with Romulus and Remus, just cobblers.
Caesar Adsum Jam Forte - Caesar had a fruit-based preserve for his afternoon repast
Ceasar Ad Nauseam On Omnibus - Caesar threw-up while travelling on a popular method of public transport.

German is marginally more relevant to sciences - a friend of mine studied Chemistry, and some papers he had to read were only published in German.
However, most French and German scientists, IT people and so on are fluent in English.
I studied French but not German - then ended up working for 4 years in Germany! I was working in IT - and the project was conducted entirely in English.

Difficult one. German is widely used in scientific material but French is more widely spoken in the world at large. One thing you should know by now is that the names of languages are written with a capital letter in English. (French, German).

I am currently taken a full french GCSE and a half course in Spanish so half a GCSE. I would recommend French as German seems harder. a friend done it and got a D. All the words are hard to spell and pronounce and they have funny grammer. At least with french it is reasonably simple. Francais est formidable et utile considérant que allemand est tres dificil et ennuyeux. choisis francais non allemand parce que francais est super.
