Hey Johnny! 50 here too! I find myself starting a new chapter. It depends on you. Does it improve you? Cut down on your stress? Put you in the enviable position? This job touched upon a passion or is it a knee jerk reaction to a bad situation going to worse. This is for you to say. 50 years old is nothing but a number. Only you know what your goals are. We find ourselves looking back at our lives and realizing the mistakes and failures as well as the successes and triumphs. There is no going back to fix it. Just remember where you have been and keep moving towards the goal. It is pretty amazing to see it come together. Good luck.

No, as long as you know what you want to do. Happiness is more important than being at a job you don't like or at a job that is boring. I rather take a job that has lower pay if I like doing that work better than one that pays well. Employment agencies are a good source to help you make a wise decision.

Age should not matter and in the UK they are bringing in laws to stop descrimination against older job applicants.

However you need to concider:
Are you prepared to relocate?
What skills do you have that your rivals may not, e.g. experience?
Who will you be working with? Do you really want to work with a bunch of know it all teenagers?
How long are you prepared to be without a job?
Do you want to work for yourself?

Not if you plan on working until your 65. You still have 15 years to make it work!
