Please read the manual or look for a sticker on the side of the seat that has the weight limits for your specific carrier. A baby has outgrown the infant seat when they reach the weight limit (20 or 22 or 30 pounds, depending on the specific seat, please look in the manual or on the sticker on the side for the guideline, I can't stress this enough), or when the top of the head is within an inch of the top of the seatback. It's not a safety problem for the feet to hang out of the back of the seat, it's just important that the head is protected and cradled safely in the seat.
If your child is under a year old and 20 pounds, then you must use a rearfacing convertible seat next. Rearfacing to the maximum weight of the convertible seat is the safest thing you can do for your baby when you drive, so that means up to 30 or 33, or 35 pounds and when the top of the head is even with the top of the seatback--age 2 or 3 for most kids in most convertible seats. Again, the legs don't matter if they are hanging out, it's the head and spine that we are most worried about protecting (I'd rather my baby have broken legs than a broken neck, personally, and there's actually no risk of injury to the legs when even a larger child is rearfacing in a crash :))
Hope that helps, come by www.car-seat.org if you have more questions!

If it's just an regular infant carrier and not a convertible one, the weight limit is generally 25 lbs or one year of age. Good luck!

They make car seats that are the regular stay in the car ones for babies who are over 7/8lbs. Ours says that is more about how your infant is sitting in it and they give a description of how the baby should be positioned. The infant carriers are more so a matter of conveneince becasue you can take them in and out of the car, but most babies fit in regular car seats as well. The infant carrier we had was up to 29 in and 30 lbs. Our daughter is 29 inches at six months, so we switched over a month ago.

I am sure if you look on the carrier it will have weight limit on it. They are all different. Some are 20lbs others are 40lbs. If you can not find it on the carrier.. locate the website of the name brand of the carrier. Good luck.

most normal infant carriers hold 20-21 lbs. my first child stayed in hers until her 1st b-day when she reached 20 lbs and we put the new one foward facing. my other 2 kids were out of theirs at 6 months into convertable carseats and we kept them rear facing until they were a year old. hope that helps!

It's typically around one year. Look in your manual for the specific weight and size limits on yours.

Check on the seat it will tell you. Seats are different, it depends on who the maker was.
