Despite their similair appearance, DVDs and CDs are in fact fairly different technologies, with the data on DVDs taking a completely different format to that of CDs as well as containing much more densly packed information, as such there is no way for a CD drive to read a DVD, infact the only reason a DVD drive can read a CD is because they are built with specific back compatibility, and include the different technology needed to do so

Not a chance. Even though the disks look the same they are manufactured in different ways and must be 'read' in different ways also.
I have to assume that you're talking about movie DVDs. If you meant data DVDs, I wonder why you still had a CDRW drive...
Either buy an internal DVD drive - they're about £16 for a playback model but I have seen some recorders for £17!
Or if you are cautious about opening your case, there's an external DVD-RW for about £40 that you plug into a USB socket.
You may also need software to transfer your DVDs to the computer. If they are films, there is a huge resource at the address below. You may wish to visit this site first.
Although, to be honest, a video DVD is pretty compact as it is...
If you wanted to take your favourite films on holiday with you, check out the link below.
Hope this helps...

No. CD drives are not able to read, copy, burn, etc. DVDs. While the cases look the same, the hardware inside a DVD drive is very different.

I positioned a cd in my dvd burner, circulate to My pictures, open the folder via double clicking on it until I see the image i choose. Then I click on the image, seem to the left the place it says replica to CD, and click on it. Wait a 2nd or so, and a window would desire to open up allowing you to call it, and click ok. If this would not paintings, come again right here, and positioned up returned.

The CDRW is a different format, and the movie will be too large to fit.
