The current aircraft has more than adequate range without refueling (check Gulfstream's specifications). Even as a republican, I have to disagree with the Prez on this one.

This is simply another attempt for Fancy Pellosi to "look presidential", more appropriately, "queen-like". This plane, after the exhorbatent cost for outfitting, will cost nearly half-a-million dollars for every trip to her home base and back. That is rediculous and extravagent by anyone's measure. Besides, why does she need an aircraft with bedrooms and shower facilities?

But, what else has anyone come to expect from "the party of the people"? She is one of the wealthiest women in America. She's the Paris Hilton of congress at the moment. She will have to have something to chaffeur her campaign doners around won't she? Let her keep the speaker's current aircraft and quit wasting taxpayer money.

One last point; if she goes home only twice monthly during the next four years, it will cost the American public OVER THIRTY ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Requesting the jet seems in and of itself to be appropriate. The size of the jet is, in my mind, a separate issue. I understand her desire for a plane that can make a direct flight from California to DC. The DoD's response on use of available assets seems to be appropriate also, but I wonder whether or not there ought to be a dedicated aircraft for the speaker, seeing as how they are 2nd in line to the presidential succession.

Yes...and the President agrees with her, it's the Republican Minority trying to get a story out of nothing that's is making this news. She is 2 in line to the most powerful office in the world, doesn't anyone think she should be able to get from here to there in one stop? All other speakers before her have been able to, they just lived closer, and didn't need as big a plane. AND NO REPUBLICANS, she never asked for a jumbo jet.

hey, keep up with the news, the Sargent-at-arms at the pentagon made the request (for which he publicly took full responsibility for too), not Pelosi based upon a requirement set forth by the repubs right after 9/11.

Why not??? She is the 3rd person in line to be Prez. SAy Cheney shoots himself in a hunting accident and Bush falls off the side of an aircraft carrier. She would be your Prez. Plus, whats a big plane compared to all the money we have given Iraq in the last 4 years??? One Billon of one percent???

Our State removed its Comptroller for using a State Worker as a personal driver for his wife and himself. So imagine what we'd do for her.

Yes, as Speaker I think she deserves it but the whole global warming hypocrisy of it is hysterical.
