If i was to help another person die i think it would send me round the twist - i wouldnt be able to stop thinking about whether i made the right decision, or if the person i 'helped' was just having a bad day.
I can appreciate those suffering may want to die, but asking/hoping/expecting someone else to bring it about is a little selfish - that person has to live with what they have done.
Anyway, its illegal - and for a good reason.

It's a very difficult one and as you imply in your second sentence the problem is that if you ask someone else to end your life then they take on a responsibility. If a person wants to take their own life I think it is very sad - especially when this lady seems to be so intelligent and thoughtful. But it is very difficult to involve others. Given what she has said I wonder if the doctors couldn't leave her the morphine or whatever is required. She appears to be physically able to swallow or inject it herself. Then it would be entirely her choice as to whether to kill herself.

Doctors are sworn to preserve life and obviously cant be made to kill anyone it would definately be an infringement of their human rights if anyone tried to force them to do so.

Doctors have rights too, as do patients. You may have the right to determine the extent of your treatment but not the right to end your life. Of course if someone does this on their own that's one thing, but to expect someone to do it for you is another.

It's sad that we are in a society that will put a loved pet down when it is suffering, but when another human being is asking to be put out of their misery when all known means have failed to take away the pain we cannot help them.

Remember Dr. Kavorkian? He was crucified for showing compassion to human suffering.

If you are ill and stop eating then you will die. I'm sure that nil-by-mouth has been happening worldwide to help people die without anyone knowing. Its only now with the "blow the whistle" culture that people can't do it.

I agree with Melark. I don't think it's fair to ask a Dr to live with that on his/her conscience that A) someone asked him/her to end their suffering but they could not do it or B) live with the knowledge they had taken a life.
