I'm going to be brutally honest here...once you start supplementing your chances of getting your milk supply up to a point where she doesn't need a supplement are slim. It becomes a game of catch up. You start increasing your supply, but the baby starts needing more. I went through it. There is mother's milk to increase milk supply, drink as much water as physically possible, stay away from caffeine, rest rest rest, and try as hard as you can to not be anxious, it decreases your supply. I started supplementing after three weeks and the doctor made it sound so simple..."Just supplement until you get your supply up". It's not that easy. Supplement as little as you possibly can. Feed the baby breast then bottle. Breast feed and pump as often as you possibly can. Dedicate the next couple of weeks to focusing simply on breastfeeding. I wished I had stuck with. After I started supplementing it took another couple of months to get her situated on a formula she could digest. The other thing to make sure is that you get the slowest nipple possible. You don't want your baby to prefer the bottle becasue it's easier. You might be successful, but be prepared to continue to supplement. Good luck. Your baby is going to be fine no matter what route you end up taking, so don't sweat it.

I would suggest you Don't supplement; there's no need really, if you had enough milk before it's not likely that you have a medical condition that's preventing you from producing enought....

I had this same problem, and begged not to supplement. Instead, I started taking Fenugreek (about 12 capsules a day, 620 mg caps.) as well as Blessed Thistle tincture (30 drops in some water, takes like tea). I also used a hospital-grade double breast pump for 15 minutes after the baby was done eating, then I gave him what I just expressed. My baby was 9 weeks when we went through all this. After one week of doing that, he started gaining an ounce a day - after only gaining like an ounce every three days!!

Supplementing is NOT necessary, it will just make your baby's appetite go down for breast milk, which means it's even harder to boost your supply! If you can get through the next two or three days, until the Fenugreek kicks in (you'll smell like a pancake or waffles, your sweat, your pee, even the baby will smell) then you'll be fine.

You shouldn't supplement. Once baby starts feeding from a bottle, sometimes they have a harder time feeding from the breast. The technique babies use to suck from the two are very different, the bottle requiring almost no work. You may just not be feeding her often enough. Newborns often feed every hour when they are breast feed. If you are not with her during a regular feeding time, then pump if possible. The more often you express milk, whether it be manually or by feeding, the more milk your body produces.
If you have any concerns, contact the hospital where you had your daughter and ask to speak to a lactation specialist, or contact your local la leche league. Unfortunately most pediatricians are not very knowledgeable about breastfeeding.
Good luck and just hang in there. Many new mom's and babies have a tough time breastfeeding to begin with. Remember, you are both learning.

The satisfactory approach to spice up deliver is to nurse and/or pump extra normally! How normally are you nursing now? How lengthy in keeping with consultation? I'd anticipate a little one that age to be nursing each two-three hours across the clock. Why do you think your deliver has long gone down? Many instances mothers THINK they have got a deliver crisis whilst it is anything else. It's fundamental to notice that the think of the breast, the habits of your little one, the frequency of nursing, the feeling of permit-down, or the volume you pump don't seem to be legitimate approaches to verify you probably have sufficient milk to your little one. How is her weight acquire? Can you submit all weights, birthweight, lowest weight and weights taken on account that then? Is she developing in period and head circumference? Is she wetting and soiling? If you supply a complement, be certain you're pumping whilst to take a look at to spice up your deliver. Talk to a neighborhood La Leche League Leader or a Lactation Consultant approximately getting a supplemental nursing procedure (SNS) so you'll be able to supply the dietary supplements AT the breast and stimulate your possess deliver. Consider utilizing fenugreek to spice up your deliver. Be definite to learn the hyperlink beneath first. Typical dosage is three-four tablets 3x in keeping with day.

It isn't easy but it can be done.

First of all, make sure you're drinking plenty of water, you'll need extra to produce extra milk.

I would suggest you feed your little one from both breasts at each feed and then offer a top up of just an ounce or two so that your little one is hungry at the next feed.

Express from both breasts an hour later, you can use whatever you express as the next top up feeds.

Once your baby refuses the top up, express an just an ounce or two from your full breast before the baby feeds then offer the little one this breast first so that she is getting the hind milk. If she is still hungry, offer her your full breast after she has emptied the first one. At this stage you're probably producing enough milk and can stop expressing if you want to. I kept going as it's handy to have a surplus of supply for those growth spurts!

The basic idea is to use up all of your supply at each feed at first and express until empty an hour or so later, so that your body has to produce more milk to meet the demand.

It is tough going at first but your body will respond quite quickly and before you know it you'll be producing plenty of milk for your babe. In the meantime, the top ups will help her to put on the weight if that's what is needed.

Good luck!

It's not you that need to be drinking more milk. It's your baby. Go to the store and buy formula.
