Is it safe to say that she is past it? I know SIDS and suffocation are completely unrelated but when did other parents feel safe putting a baby pillow and/or stuffed animals in the crib?

I read on a website that 90% of SIDS cases happen before the baby is 6 months old, but that the risk never completely goes away. Just the name and the cause changes. I didn't feel comfortable putting a pillow in my daughters bed till she was a year or so.

I really don't think anyone knows a set age as the condition is still such a mystery. Most things I've read say that once a baby can roll over and lift his/her head that the risk goes down. Still be cautious with blankets, pillows and toys. I waited to use a pillow until mine were all about 2-2 1/2 and I put them in a regular bed before I allowed a pillow or teddy bear. That's just my opinion though.

When baby can roll over and lift up head, then suffocation shouldn't be a worry anymore. Wait to give stuffed animals until then and I wouldn;t worry about a pillow until later on - baby doesn't need it. SIDS is an issue until they're about a year and there's nothing for you to do to help prevent that - it's unfortunately just one of those things - so stop worrying.

Typically once they can roll over on their own and lift their head up, you can stop worrying about suffocation. We put a stuffed animal (a Ty Pluffies elephant) in with our son at 3 months old, it's since become his best friend. I wouldn't necessarily do a pillow until they're out of the crib and in a regular bed.
