U can go for something very basic. See lot of myth goes about rural economy being dependent upon technology and for that money. Do some emperical data study. Take all factors of production (because ultimately the produce in rural india only effects the rural economy) like rainfall, land under cultivation, usage of chemical fertilizer, mechanisation etc., correlate it with production. Now take a research plot entirely different, no technology, no capital, no improved practices....compare them.

Or better try something more straight, production and price movements in the given area.

Trust u will find them interesting.

Dear friend,

The topic you have selected seems to be alright, but it will get fine tuned by the guide you are choosing or vice-versa ,once you get admission for the Ph.D programme in Economics.

I am giving you an excerpt from a local news paper for your views and consideration.

“News heas line: Yunus will quit his bank, start party to set new trend”
Dhaka,Feb. 13 : Bangladesh’s Nobel laureate Muhammeb Yunus on Tuesday announced he would be quitting Grameen Bank to form a political party that would set “a new trend”.

“ Mr.Muhammed Yunus founded the Grameen Bank three decades ago, ushering in an experiment in rural banking that lent money to poor people without any collateral’s.It has been emulated in an estimated 80 countries. He was awarded the Nobel Prize last year.”

Apart from the one you have selected, another suggested topic is :

“Experiment in rural banking without any collateral’s”

The achievement of Muhammed Yunus is phenomenal in rural banking in Bangla Desh and he was awarded Nobel Prize.

Now, he is making a debut in Bangla Desh Politics and I am confident he will succeed to lead the nation successfully as he did in rural banking. If he wins in politics he will be the first person ,a Nobe laureate to enter politics in the whole of the world,I suppose.

WISH YOU GOOD LUCK!

In Karnataka, several farmers committed suicide. In neighbouring Maharashtra no farmer committed suicide. In Karnatak, every day the farmers visit near by towns or cities and stay all day long without doing any work If ou consider a man spends Rs.100 per visit, he must be spending Rs.30000 a year and this leads to borrowing money and subsequently having trapped in debt he commits suicide. In Maharashtra the women are strong and they control their husbands from wasteful expenditure. Make a comparative study. Karnataka women have no control over their husbands.
Where ever soils are fertile in India, per capita income is low, birth rates are high, crime rates are high, ratio of politicians to general public is high, ratio of advocates to general public is high, illiteracy is high, class difference is wide, bank recoveries are poor, mobility of labour is poor and cases registered in courts are high. Make a study and find out the reason.

85% of people in India (most of them are in rural India) do not have a bank account.

1. As a result they are exploited in payment for their works.
2. The government benefits do not directly reach them.

You may solve this problem atleast theoretically if not practically for your research project.
