I'm pretty sure that IamwhoIam didn't answer the question when it was asked 9 months ago, just a lot of info about diamonds. Are they metal? If so, please explain why. If not, please explain why.

Thanks

they're made of carbon, a non metal, made in a huge covalent structure, the structure is what makes it differrent to graffite also made from carbon.

Diamond is NOT the hardest metal because it is NOT A METAL!! I don't know why people are saying it is. Diamond is made of carbon, which is a NON-metal. The hardest, but not the strongest, metal is chromium with a Mohs hardness of over 8

Well, diamond is made up of carbon. Since carbon is a non-metal, then diamond is also a non-metal.

no
diamond is not a metal
diamond is a non-metal
it is an allotrophe of carbon which is a non-metal

diamond is an allotrope of carbon which has 4 electron in the valence shell so it is a non metal as metal has 1 ,2 ,3 electron in its valence shell

I'm fairly sure it is a NON-METAL, but if it has 4 electrons in its outer shell, surely then it falls under the category for a Semi-Conductor.

This compounded by the fact it is made from Carbon and that is a semi-conductor (same group as Silicon in the periodic table.)
Although some periodic tables claim that it is a non-metal, I would beg to differ.

diamond is a nonmetal. it is the allotrope of carbon and is made when coal is pressurized for billions of years. diamond is the hardest of all the natural occuring substances.

remember:::::
DIAMOND ISNT A METAL. IT IS A NON METAL. IT IS THE ALLOTROPE OF CARBON. IE.

DEFINITION OF ALLOTROPE""
various forms of an element having same chemical properties but different physical properties.

diamonds are compressed carbon molecules, as carbon has a unique way of bonding to itself. but carbon is not a metal.
