Ramones for starting it, Operation Ivy for the creativity of blending it with ska and making a huge impact in such a short time, and Social Distrotion for the longevity and raw emotion/everyday socail commentary MIke Ness brings in his lyrics.
Social D puts on probably the best live performance I have ever seen.

I too was a huge fan of the Minutemen, somehow they transcended the label of "punk rock". I was very sad when I heard D. Boon passed away. I would go with the Sex Pistols as "the greatest", since they were the first punk band I heard back in 1978, and for the pure notoriety they caused in their short lifespan.

The Sex Pistols for "the look" and "attitude", The Clash for making me think, and Husker Du for doing it all.
