Passport law in US has changed and passports are now required. If you are on a cruise ship I strongly recommend you take a passport, because if you become ill and have to leave the ship a passport is required. It's just common sense to have one - great identification.

They just changed this about 4-6 weeks ago. If you are traveling from anywhere in the US to Bahamas or Mexico (via airplane) you need a passport.

Yup. As of January 1, 2007, anyone leaving the U.S. for any foreign port by air or boat MUST have a valid U.S. Passport to re-enter the United States, and the Bahamas now requires anyone entering their sovereign territory to have a valid passport. If you need one, be advised that it's taking the State Department six to eight weeks to get them to you once you apply, assuming you give them everything you need. For more information, go to the State Department web site: http://www.state.gov/
