I am having a hard time collecting the child support that is owed to me. I keep getting the run around from the court system. I would like a lawyer to help with my case but I can't afford one. I also make just above the limit to receive legal aid. I live in Pennsylvania. Anyone know if there are any other options?

You're dealing with a county agency and normally it's up to you to file any papers or motions that you need. There should be some type of caseworker assigned who will help you. They make these matters easy and of course .... no legal counsel is normally required because most women are in the same position you are .......

If you are not receiving support it is most likely the child's father that is giving you the runaround. If he didn't have much of a history of working before ---- he most likely will not change now. You can't get blood from a stone.
Only thing you can do is try to keep accurate tabs on him .... find out if he is working or where ...... or when. Even if he isn't paying now ---- what he owes should be adding up. Don't let him off the hook .... keep applying and getting you just due.

The best thing for you to do is to make yourself independant enough where you do not need his support to live off of. But ' don't let him off the hook either ... let the amount accrue because one day your child or you may need it ..... whenever you finally do collect it.

GOod luck.

Some lawyers may elect to take a case either on a contigency basis. (they take a part of your reward money as payment and only get paid if you win) Others may do work on a sliding scale, or "pro-bono" (free) Suggest you try the state bar association, the legal aid people or anyone who might have a list of lawyers at their disposal. Tell them what you need and see if they can give you some names. Good luck!

I would contact the local bar association and ask them to put you in contact with someone who takes pro bono cases.

Contact a local law school and see if they have a clinic where the law students might help you out for free.

In Texas the Attorney General's office has a special hotline for cases like yours. I don't know about Pennsylvania, but you can call and see if they do.

Try to find an attorney that will let you pay him after he gets a judgment for you. This may be hard b/c the court will probably just throw him in jail. The lawyers know this too. It is kind of hard to get money from a guy that is in jail.
